REVIEW: “The Wizard of Oz”

As a playwright I get to see a lot of theater, and earlier this week I caught a production that made me genuinely proud, excited and maybe even a little giddy.  I’m gushing over a lively, whimsical, fast-paced production of a favorite. Go ahead, put on your ruby slippers and say it with me: “The Wizard of Oz” at our own Alliance Theatre!
Of course the movie looms large in our collective memory, but this 70-minute production will delight kids of all ages with it’s wonderful performances, inspired folk-art design, great musicality (cue: “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”) and surprises that will make you giggle with glee.  If you want to be part of the fun of Dorothy and her entourage on the great search for home, you have to act fast.  Directed by Rosemary Newcott, “The Wizard of Oz,” will have its final shows at the Alliance Theatre this weekend.  So,  what are you waiting for? All you have to do is follow the yellow brick road . . .
